Where's Your Attention Going?

Everyone is jealous of what you've got. No one is jealous of how you got it.

I saw this the other day, and couldn’t hit save fast enough.

Everyone is jealous of what you've got. No one is jealous of how you got it.

Think about that for a moment.

So much of the content we see.

The videos, the press profiles, the posts, tell the success part of the story.

Everyone wants to be the rich guy ( or gal ). To show off. To have the flash.

How often do you read about the rough road to that success?

The hours spent, making no money. Being forced to eat ramen.

Begging your landlord for an extra couple of days.

Or just those days when you’re sitting alone, thinking you’re fucked.

Every success story start with weeks and months ( years even ) of suck.

It’s just a fact. Minus those lucky few who were born rich, and get richer.

That ain’t us.

But here’s what I’d like you to do, and to think about.

The sooner you start. The smarter you are about the suck.

The sooner it will end.

The less painful it will be.

So here’s what I want you to do.

Getting To Work ( the smart way )

  1. Start planting the seeds.
  2. Commit to consistency.

Let’s start with #2.

Put a block of time in your day ( every day ), even Sunday.

30 mins is something, an hour is better, two hours is the ultimate.

For those two hours, without fail, create.

Write. Draw. Film. Post. Whatever. Just do it.

Two hours. No surfing. No learning. No Threads. No YouTube ( consumption ). No trying to find the shortcut to success.

Just do the work.

Have no money. Write on Threads, or LinkedIn, or Medium.

Have a few dollars, get some cheap hosting on Hostinger or here on Ghost and start a blog, or a newsletter.

Don’t know what to talk about?

Don’t overthink it.

What is something that you know a lot about?

Whatever that is, that knowlwedge plus the unique experience you have ( there is only one you ), is all that you need.

Teach people about what you know. Educate, give, provide value.

Not every subject is going to have a million person audience. Yours might cap out a couple hundred people. Even with an audience that small, if they’re committed and trust you, is monetizable..we’ll talk about that later.

Now. Plant the seeds.

Go where the people you believe ( and you will validate right? ) spend their time and start talking to them.

Discord. Twitter. Reddit. Quora. Whatever. Wherever.

Go there and be part of the community.

Do not sell.

Do not make offers.

Just be a human being.

Tell people about what you’re doing. Tell them how excited you are. Give them some of the value you’ve been creating.

Give. Give. Give.

Then give some more.

Build trust, build authority, be helpful, and people will gravitate to you and start to listen.

Once they start listening ( and getting value ), they’ll want direct access.

They’ll sign up for your newsletter. or subscribe to your channel.

Now you have a dedicated audience…you’re on the path.

An audience is opportunity. Full stop.

Finishing Up

That’s it.

That’s the whole trick.

As Scott Galloway says, getting rich is simple, if you’re willing to take 50 years.

It won’t take you that long, but it is not happening in a month.

Everything worthwhile takes time.

So stick with it. Push through the pain and the suck.

Do that and you’ll be ahead of 95% of people.

And the money will come.

Let me know how you’re doing in the comments on the website.

Cheers.
